Promote Piracy.
“I am against piracy,” someone told me.
I said I believe in piracy. It’s easy to oppose piracy without understanding it. Without the realization that we grew up on the pirated version of Windows. Without knowing how countries like India and China have thrived technologically because of piracy. I wonder how many genuine Adobe Photoshop exist in my country. It’s just so easy to say stop piracy. But its nearly impossible to stop it. Piracy as a cultural phenomenon is not so easy to comprehend. I was defending piracy passionately. What is Wikipedia? What is Google cache? What is Youtube? That’s how we share information. That’s how we care and know about each other. It’s a new school of education.
“Those whose permission was required in production are the ones to resist piracy,” someone says in the film, “Control is a good thing if you can have it.” But just for a few people…. I believe thought should not be and cannot be controlled. Paper-bullets led to the fall of the French government in 1788-89. Perhaps, the peer to peer community will lead to a global democracy. When every book in the world is in our reach, when every film and music is just a click away, knowledge will be free. “Love is free, free is love…” John Lennon sang. He also ‘Imagined’ ‘Power to the People’… I’ve learned so much through internet. The internet was invented to share information. The age when bibles were chained have already passed. A new era of free information has dawned.
“But we cannot save people from watching rotten soaps.”
There are so many things to learn. It is when we communicate (which is also sharing information), we learn new things. The power to choose what you want to listen, read or watch has helped me understand culture of faraway lands.
We are a community. We help each other to learn. Intellectual property is a good thing. But intellectual freedom is something to die for. Let’s promote piracy. Start downloading. Start sharing. Learn how to use torrents and p2p and other hosting sites like rapidshare. There are search engines for such hosting sites too. Just google (search) and type how to download ‘what you want’. Look for discussions on piracy and torrents. Search for forums. Search for databases. There are many people like you, find them. Start today by “stealing this film”.
